Robber Flies (Family Asilidae) are
speedy aggressive predators that specialize in certain prey. This species
(Triorla interrupta) apparently specializes in Eastern Amberwings! These photos were taken in
July 2002 in Jasper County Georgia.
Birds are well-known predators of
dragonflies. Here are several examples, cw from top left: Swallow-tailed
Kite (Elanoides forficatus), Gray Kingbird (Tyrannus dominicensis),
Purple Martin (Progne subis), and trouble from below, Purple
Gallinule (Porphyrula martinica).
